Places to stay in Cornwall

Cornwall is quite simply one of the most beautiful counties in England and the most popular holiday destination in England. Visit here and you will understand why. The coastline is probably one of the most dramatic around the UK and attracts huge numbers of visitors to the rocky cliffs, long sandy beaches, rock pools, small coves, coastal walks and wonderfully blue waters. Many of the beaches provide safe swimming with lifeguards on duty. Of course famous holiday destinations such as Newquay and St.Austell attract surfers from all over the world and now host some of the world surfing competitions.

The countryside here is outstanding with rolling hills and fields to be explored via the many footpaths, walking trails, canals, and horse trails.  Hiring a car is thoroughly recommended in order to fully appreciate all that is on offer here. Along the way discover the many towns and villages beside the coast such as Padstow, Looe, Port Isaac, St.Ives, Boscastle, Polperrol and Fowey. Wear some comfortable shoes and explore the streets of these towns where you will find art galleries, shops, cafes, restaurants and yummy ice-cream parlours.

The huge range of sandy beaches here makes it perfect for families and children with plenty to keep everyone amused. Why not try your hand at a surfing lesson! Or perhaps enjoy an evening barbeque on the beach while watching the sunset. At St.Austell you can now explore the Eden Project which hosts huge steel-framed domes housing tropical rain forests and a Mediterranean climate. Visit Tintagel Castle where legend has it that King Arthur held court with the Knights of the Round Table. Bude is a popular family holiday seaside resort which has grown in popularity due to its surfing and vast beaches. The coastline around here has been the scene of many a wrecked ship.

Inland from the coast you will find Bodmin Moor with its mysterious legends and wild and remote landscape. Here you will discover hut circles, ancient burial grounds and stone circles from days gone by. A great place for pony-trekking or just walking but do be wary of the sudden mists that can descend.

In the south-west of Cornwall you will find St.Michaels Mount, a small rocky island just off the Cornwall coast which can be reached via a causeway during low tide or by boat during high tide. A very romantic destination with a castle on the top of the island to explore.

Last but not least is a trip to Lands End the most southerly tip of the English coast. Here you can look out on the English Channel and the vast Atlantic Ocean. On a clear day you can see the lighthouse protecting this busy shipping route from the rugged rocks that lie off this coastline and have your photo taken with the signpost listing all the destinations around the world.
