The South West

The South West includes the following counties: Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Swindon, Wiltshire, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

The South West is extremely diverse in that you’ll find beautiful countryside, coastal villages, rugged coastlines, beautiful beaches, cosmopolitan cities such as Bristol, historical cities such as Bath and many castles. Of course the area is most famous for its clotted cream. The rivers Severn (Britain’s longest river) and the Avon can be found in the South West. 

Stonehenge is one of the biggest tourist attractions - a prehistoric monument located on Salisbury Plain. The Cotswolds is very popular with tourists with its beautiful villages and typical “English” feel.

Bournemouth is a popular holiday destination with its beautiful beaches, great nightlife, fantastic shopping and lots of children’s fun and entertainment.
Glastonbury Festival has drawn thousands of music lovers to a farm just outside the town of Glastonbury in Somerset since 1970. Exmoor National Park and Cheddar Gorge are well worth a visit.

On the tip of the south west England are Devon and Cornwall – both popular for holiday destinations. Plymouth with its famous naval docks and home to the Royal Navy can be found on the south coast of Devon and this area is known as the English Riviera.

Cornwall is famous for its beaches, Lands End, Tintagel, St Ives and much more.  It really is a great holiday destination.  It is advised to book accommodation early if you are travelling during the holiday seasons.

Dartmoor National Park with its dramatic landscape is located on the border of Cornwall. There are wild ponies and it is a great place for walkers and hikers.
