South West Ireland
The South West
The South West of Ireland is home to Ireland's third largest city – Cork; with its vibrant lifestyle and many places of outstanding beauty such as the Lakes of Killarney in Kerry and Muckross Abbey on Ross Castle.
With a mix of breathtaking coastline, rugged mountains, lakes, countryside to explore, South West Ireland has it all and is a great place for walkers, cyclists, scuba diving, water-skiing, adventure holidays and of course relaxing holidays.
Cork City is a great base to explore both the city and its surroundings. The city is a lovely place to stroll around and take in the sights and sounds. On the outskirts of the city you will find Ireland's only wildlife park on Fota Island, you will also find quaint fishing villages such as Kinsale with its narrow streets – also known for its great seafood.
Many will have heard of the famous Blarney Stone which can be seen with a visit to Blarney Castle.
You will find Kerry further west – also known as the "Kingdom" due to the majestic landscape and legends of old recounting the triumphs of the people of Kerry.
In the Dingle peninsula you will come across the popular tourist attraction “Fungi” – a bottlenose dolphin who has made his home in the bay.
The Ring of Kerry is not to be missed and very popular with tourists – this is a fantastic trip around the rugged Kerry coastline including the Killarney National Park and the towering Macgillicuddy Reeks, which includes Ireland's highest mountain Carrantoohill.
