South Wales
South Wales
South Wales is the most heavily populated area of Wales and accounts for some 78% of the total population. This is also home to Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and home to the Welsh Rugby team who play at the Millennium Stadium in the centre of Cardiff.
Cardiff has undergone considerable regeneration over the last few years especially around the harbour and waterways. South Wales borders onto England to the East and Mid Wales and West Wales to the North and South. Other major cities that can be found here are Swansea and Newport.
The boundaries of the regions in Wales are somewhat vague but it is reasonable to consider Glamorgan and Monmouthshire as within South Wales. Approximately one third of the Brecon Beacons falls into the region of South Wales.
The landscape in South Wales is really quite dramatic with some lovely coastal areas to explore.
